Dr. Tobias Achterberg Joins the Gurobi Optimization R&D Team

Gurobi Optimization is pleased to announce that Dr. Tobias Achterberg, a recognized expert in the field of computational mixed integer programming, has joined the Gurobi development team. Dr. Achterberg received his PhD in discrete optimization from the Technical University of Berlin in 2007. As part of his thesis work, he developed the SCIP mixed-integer programming code, which is generally regarded as the best academic MIP code. He was awarded the Beale-Orchard-Hays Prize for Excellence in Computational Mathematical Programming in 2009, and the INFORMS Optimization Society Young Researcher Prize in 2011. Dr. Achterberg has been a member of the CPLEX R&D team since 2006, and has been the lead MIP developer for CPLEX releases 12.0 through 12.6. “We are extremely pleased to have Dr. Achterberg join Gurobi,” said Dr. Bixby, President of Gurobi Optimization. “He is a great addition to a development team that we feel is by far the best in the industry. This is another example of our commitment to delivering the best solver possible, now and in the future.” “I am very excited to be joining Gurobi,” said Dr. Achterberg. “I have been extremely impressed with both the strength of their team and the performance of their solver, and am looking forward to helping to make the Gurobi Optimizer the leading solver for many years to come.”
