Daniel Bienstock is the Liu Family Professor of Operations Research at Columbia University, with a joint appointment in Applied Mathematics and in Electrical Engineering. His main research concerns high-performance algorithms for large-scale optimization with special focus on hard problems arising in engineering. A specific area of interest concerns operations of power grids.  He is on sabbatical at Gurobi for the 2022-2023 academic year. He received the Khachiyan Prize for Optimization in 2022 and became an INFORMS Fellow in 2013.
